Food Outreach Facts
Food Outreach Program
House of Yahweh
How do we collect, package and deliver food for our clients?
Monday through Saturday each week the House of Yahweh (HOY) refrigerated trucks make 2 trips daily to visit our 29 generous suppliers. They pick up fresh produce, dairy products, bread / bakery items, meat, fish and other essentials foods that are donated to HOY. Our staff sorts and processes these food stuffs and repackages them in grocery boxes and bags for our Food Outreach and Emergency Food clients.
Six days a week, every week of the year our staff creates over 230 grocery boxes and bags. This massive quantity of groceries are distributed to our clients in the afternoon. It is a big and important job.
What is Emergency Food and how can I receive it?
Emergency food can be received once a month by calling the HOY Office (310-675-1384) from 9:00am - 10:00am. The first 10 callers are accepted and can come to HOY that day between 3:00pm - 3:30pm. If a lot of surplus food exists then additional clients (above 10) are accepted. A picture ID must be provided.
How much food am I allowed?
The quantity of food distributed to each client is determined by the amount of food donated and the number of people being provided for within the family.
How do I sign up to receive food?
To apply for the Food Outreach program pick up an application from the HOY Office. The application is taken home and when completed you need to call the HOY Office for an appointment to be interviewed. If you qualify, you will be assigned a day to pick up food once a week between 2:00pm - 3:30pm.
In kind donations have increased and HOY is privileged to be serving more clients. These additions are wonderful, but involve more cash outlay by HOY for increased labor and vehicle expense i.e., for extra trips made by our two refrigerated vehicles, etc. We certainly don’t want to turn away clients or donated food, but without additional cash donations we might have to. Would you help by becoming a monthly cash donor?
A Message from Angie Pacheco, Executive Director
The House of Yahweh has been serving your poor neighbors in South Bay Los Angeles for 35 years; your support of this mission makes this possible. Feeding the hungry, providing clothing and household goods to the poor or helping the homeless to improve their lives is the service we offer to our community.
Today we are at a crossroad in our service to the poor. Our financial outlook is bleak unless we can substantially increase cash donations. Please help us to continue the House of Yahweh's good works by making a monthly cash donation; small amounts are fine but we need many new donors all helping to keep the mission going. Thank you.
